Distant Land And Objects

Step #147 in the Expanded Vanilla list

Description:
These settings will affect how the engine renders distant land and objects. They allow for very fine-grained control over how much distant stuff you see.

First, enable distant terrain (which will also enable object paging, for distant objects):

  • Put distant terrain = true under [Terrain] in your settings.cfg file (add the section if it isn't already there), or:
  • Run OpenMW-Launcher, click "Advanced", click the "Visuals" tab, then check the box next to "Distant land".

Next, enable "object paging active grid":

  • Put object paging active grid = true under [Terrain] in your , or:
  • Run OpenMW-Launcher, click "Advanced", click the "Visuals" tab, then check the box next to "Active grid object paging".

Finally, set object paging min size to gain back a sizeable amount of performance.

There's no hard-and-fast rule for what works best, but object paging min size = 0.023 is a good starting point. Put this under[Terrain] in your settings.cfg file.

Please see the Tips: Performance page for more information about how to do performance tweaking and testing, as well as the official documentation for object paging, for more information about other related settings you can try to adjust for further performance gains.
